Network and System Laboratory was founded by Professor Shie-Yuan Wang on February 1, 2000 at the department of computer science and information engineering, National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan.
Research topics studied by NSL ranges from the data-link layer up to the application layer. At each layer between layer 2 and layer 7, NSL focuses on both protocol design and system implementation.
NCTUns is a high-fidelity and extensible network simulator and emulator capable of simulating various protocols used in both wired and wireless IP networks.
Due to the novel "Kernel Re-Entering" methodology that Prof. S.Y.Wang invented, NCTUns provides many unique advantages that cannot be easily achieved by traditional network simulators such as ns-2 and OPNET .

Topics include: Ethernet MAC protocol, IP routing protocols, learning bridge protocol, spanning tree protocol, wireless LAN IEEE 802.11(a,b,g,n) MAC protocol, mobile-IP, Diffsserv QoS protocol, TCP congestion and error control, P2P BitTorrnet protocol, mobility and handover protocols, VLC video streaming server and clients, etc.
